SUMMARY:DARIAH Innovation Forum #2 in Dublin: Bringing Together DARIAH and the Industries
DESCRIPTION:The second DARIAH Innovation Forum will take place on 3 November\, from 9:30 to 19:00 GMT in Dublin\, Ireland (hybrid event). \nDuring this packed 1-day event panel presentations\, a keynote and an innovation challenge will highlight DARIAH’s relations with traditional and digital industries.Scope The 2022 Innovation Forum will focus on the question of how a research infrastructure such as DARIAH can play a greater role in facilitating the arts and humanities to have groundbreaking impact on technological development\, creating truly human-centred innovation and policy\, and an ethical and engaging marketplace for culture. Innovation Challenge The results of the Arts and Humanities Innovation Challenge will be shared. It’s an open competition for experts in the arts and humanities. Submit your solutions to a culturally embedded\, but ultimately economically relevant\, ‘wicked’ problem. Deadline: 17 October!  \nThe event is free but registration is required.

SUMMARY:Journal and Data Archive Collaboration Forum
DESCRIPTION:Summary \nThe availability of research data underlying articles published in journals is becoming a common practice in scientific communication. The European Commission and other funders of scientific research have set high expectations for scientists towards openness and availability of scientific work and results. Scientific publishers\, through journals and scholarly publications are the main point of realising open science in practice. \nDescription \nThis event is part of the continuous Journals Outreach initiative (https://www.cessda.eu/Training/Journals-outreach)\, bringing together CESSDA service providers (SPs) with Social Science & Humanities Journals. The target audience is publishers\, editors and researchers interested in CESSDA coordinated data services for journals. The event will also be an opportunity for publishers/journals to highlight new initiatives in research data services linked to scientific publications.  \nRegistration form \nProgramme \n14:00-14:20  Activities of the CESSDA Journals Outreach group; Profiles of CESSDA Service Providers related to accepting data linked to journals / Serafeim Alvanides \nModerator: Brian Kleiner14:20-14:40  Data showcases: the data journal in a multimodal world / Peter Doorn\, Leen Breure \n14:40-15:00  An Introduction to Open Research Europe\, focusing on Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) / Ruth Fisher \n15:00-15:10 Break \nModerator: Marijana Glavica \n15:10-15:30  FAIRsharing: An ecosystem of research standards and databases for enabling FAIR data / Allyson Lister \n15:30-15:50  The Research Data Journal: objectives and processess / Ulbe Bosma \n15:50-16:10  The CURE (Curation for Reproducibility) Consortium / Limor Peer \nModerator: Janez Strebe \n16:10-16:30 General discussion

SUMMARY:How to become a computational social scientist
DESCRIPTION:Scientific research and teaching are increasingly influenced by computational tools\, methods and paradigms. The social sciences are no different\, with many new forms of social data only available or practical through computational means (Kitchen\, 2014). \nWhile social science research has always been marked by technological approaches to some degree\, the field of computational social science involves the use of tools\, data and methods that require a different skill set and mindset. \nThis free workshop is an introduction to computational social science. It offers attendees a chance to understand and discuss what computational social science is\, what it is good for\, how to become a computational social scientist\, and the basic steps to follow in an ideal computational social science research project. \nThe workshop intersperses instruction with discussion and gives participants the chance to develop a research project idea through several steps. The workshop is suitable for absolute beginners and NO CODING SKILLS are required. \nPresenters: Dr J. Kasmire \nKitchen\, R. (2014). Big Data\, new epistemologies and paradigm shifts. Big Data & Society\, https://doi.org/10.1177/2053951714528481. \nLevel: Any level\, from absolute beginner to statistics whizExperience/knowledge required: No specific knowledge required\, but it will make much more sense if you currently (or plan to) conduct social science researchTarget audience: Social scientists who are interested in or confused by what computational and empirical social science is about\, or who know they want to start doing more computational work but don’t know how to get started \nWe will be using Mentimeter to ask questions in this workshop so you may benefit from having a second device ready for this\, such as a smartphone. \nThis event is part of our UK Data Service introductory training series: Autumn 2022.
