SUMMARY:Data in the spotlight: Longitudinal data
DESCRIPTION:This online workshop will present an overview of the longitudinal studies available via the UK Data Service\, the key features of longitudinal surveys and the policy relevance (impact) of the information they contain\, how to access the data\, undertake exploratory online analysis and get further help. \nDid you know that longitudinal data from major social studies such as the British Birth Cohort Studies\, Understanding Society and the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing can be accessed for research? \nThe longitudinal studies are extremely rich data sources for high impact and policy relevant research. The British Birth Cohort Studies (e.g. the National Child Development Study 1958 and The Millennium Cohort Study) follow the same group of children born in a specific year throughout their lives\, tracking changes and unravelling the reasons behind them. Understanding Society is an innovative and world-leading study about live and its changes in the UK in the 21st century. The real world impact of these studies continues to be substantial. Additionally\, the Covid-19 pandemic has created a defining moment for longitudinal research. \nLongitudinal studies provide a unique opportunity to track both short and long term effects of the pandemic\, alongside invaluable pre-pandemic measures of health and behaviour. Many longitudinal studies have added Covid-19 specific datasets and we will explore what some of these cover. \nMost of the studies can be downloaded after a short registration. Subsamples of some of these datasets are also available for teaching purposes. \nThis free 90-minute online workshop will consist of a 30-minute presentation\, followed by 20 minutes for questions\, and an optional 40-minute hands-on practical. The presentation and hands-on are separate parts of the workshop and attending the hands-on is optional. \nThe workshop will include: \nan overview of the longitudinal studies available via the UK Data Servicea tour on how to navigate our new website to search for longitudinal studiesquiz and participant interactionupdates and findings from Covid-19 datasetsthe key features of longitudinal surveys and the policy relevance (impact) of the information they containhow to access the data\, undertake exploratory online analysis and get further help. \nPresenters: Beate Lichtwardt and James Rayner.Level: Introductory.Experience/knowledge required: None.Target audience: Researchers/anyone interested in longitudinal data.

SUMMARY:Online workshop: Using the statistical language R as a Geographic Information System
DESCRIPTION:This event is a hands-on workshop on Geographic Information Systems for social scientists with some experience in R. \nGeospatial data have become an emerging topic in social science research. When we aim to use these data in our study\, we have to rely on a set of analytical skills facilitated by the exploitation of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). We also have to be aware of changes in our data management workflows\, originating in issues concerning data privacy and new data types. Meanwhile\, GIS is a collection of tools to visualize\, process\, and analyze geospatial data. Yet\, using GIS can get intimidating since we often have to rely on foreign software solutions to achieve our geospatial data processing goals. The good news is that we can also use the statistical software R as a proper GIS nowadays. Over the last years\, the range of supported file formats in R was expanded. Most importantly\, it became so much easier to wrangle complex geospatial data. In this course\, participants will learn about using R as a GIS and applying some first geospatial methods. They will also learn about the most common data formats\, import data\, and process them for further analysis\, and also creating maps and other features. \nThe program:09:00-09:30: Introduction: Data Management & Geospatial Data09:30-09:35: Exercise 1: R Warm up09:35-10:00: Data Processing & Spatial Linking10:00-10:30: Exercise 2: Geospatial Data Wrangling10:30-10:45: Break10:45-11:15: Easy Maps11:15-11:45: Exercise 3: Build your own map11:45-12:00: Closing\, Q & A \nPresenter: Dr Stefan Jünger\, GESIS – Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences.

SUMMARY:Demonstracija softvera jamovi za statističke analize
DESCRIPTION:Predavač: Vedran Halamić \n\n\n\nSadržaj: Cilj radionice je upoznati polaznike s osnovnim elementima jamovi-a uz obrazloženje njegovih specifičnosti. Prije same demonstracije programa\, prikazat će se dohvaćanje podataka putem sustava Dataverse u arhivu CROSSDA. Na spomenutim podacima prikazat će se osnovne mogućnosti programa\, uključujući uređivanje\, deskripciju i grafički prikaz podataka. Osim osnovnih mogućnosti\, demonstrirat će se i najčešće korištene mogućnosti vezane za inferencijalnu statistiku (t-test\, ANOVA\, Pearsonov koeficijent korelacije). Također\, demonstrirat će se instalacija modula i rad u sintaksi u svrhu njenog izvoza u programski jezik R. \n\n\n\nKljučne reference: \n\n\n\nNavarro\, D. J.\, & Foxcroft\, D. R. (2019). SUMMARY:Kako organizirati podatke u istraživačkom projektu?
DESCRIPTION:Predavač: Denis Vlašiček \n\n\n\nSadržaj: \n\n\n\nSvaki istraživački projekt zahtijeva upravljanje raznim vrstama materijala (podacima\, upitnicima\, rukopisima\, izvještajima)\, čiju organizaciju nije moguće izbjeći. Osim toga\, izrada plana upravljanja podacima (eng. data management plan; DMP) postepeno postaje obavezan dio prijave europskih i domaćih znanstvenih projekata. \n\n\n\nOvo izlaganje dat će vam kratak pregled tema vezanih uz organizaciju istraživačkih podataka i drugih materijala. Upoznat ćemo vas s nekim dobrim praksama za upravljanje istraživačkim podacima\, te vam na raspolaganje staviti materijale koji bi vam trebali pomoći  da ono o čemu ćemo pričati primijenite u vlastitom radu. \n\n\n\nKljučne reference: \n\n\n\nCESSDA Training Team (2020).
